The Power of the Human Voice at Luminato
In 1848, in what is now Iran, a poet and teacher known as Tahirih, or “The Pure One”, dared to appear in public without a veil. She was arrested and subsequently put to death.
This event provides the inspiration for a new drama commissioned by Luminato: Toronto Festival of Arts and Creativity and produced by Erika Batdorf in association with BaAM Productions.
Weaving dance, poetry, music and song into the fabric of theatre, a dynamic and culturally diverse ensemble of creators challenge us all to find our own authentic voice and our own courage to speak.
