A Tale of Four Cities

Recapping the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series and 2014 Tim Hortons Heritage Classic games

May 6, 2014

It was a hockey-filled start to 2014 for BaAM. After a record-setting and award-winning Winter Classic in Ann Arbor on January 1st, BaAM worked alongside the NHL Events Department to project manage the first-ever Stadium Series and the return of the Heritage Classic. After battling through a polar vortex and multiple winter storms, the BaAM team has returned home.  But what a winter it was!

Shortly after the NHL Winter Classic wrapped up, BaAM teams were on the road – headed first to Los Angeles and New York where our production units worked on both sides of the continent prepping two outdoor rinks in two very different climates.  From beach volleyball and KISS performances in the west to Yankee Stadium and Broadway performances in the east, the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series brought the nostalgic outdoor game experience to hockey fans across the country.  Both cities pitted local rivals against each other with the LA Kings taking on the Anaheim Ducks in LA and the NY Rangers facing off against the NJ Devils and then the NY Islanders a few nights later.

After a short break, the BaAM teams were on the move again.  This time with one team headed to Chicago’s Soldier Field for the third leg of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series and the second en route to Vancouver’s BC Place for the NHL Heritage Classic. Fans filled stadiums and tuned in for more rivalry games – the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. the Chicago Blackhawks on March 1 and the Ottawa Senators vs. Vancouver Canucks the following day.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in these projects.  We selected a fantastic group of suppliers to work with us.  Special thanks to SGA, CAT Power, Signature Systems - EventDeck, National Construction Rentals, Hertz Equipment, FPA, Aggreko, and UPA Productions.  Hats off to our staff who worked tirelessly to create lasting memories for hockey fans across North America, not to mention the NHL players who were thrilled to take the game back to its roots, like Rangers center Derick Brassard, "To play in a game like that in front of your family and everything, that's awesome. I'm going to remember that for a long time."  So will we.

And to all the winter storms out there, we say, “BRING IT ON!”
