Slicing the Ice at The Science of Hockey

This spring, Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, CA opened its doors to a truly “cool” permanent exhibit, The Science of Hockey.

Produced in collaboration with the Anaheim Ducks, the exhibit brings the dynamic game of hockey to a whole new level - and a whole new audience. Kids can take the “Skater Challenge” and join Ryan Getzlaf on a practice drill, polish their math skills at the Penalty Box, or learn about Newton’s Laws as they call Ducks’ plays from the Broadcast Booth. They can test their reaction time, find out how ice is resurfaced at hockey rinks, and mix colours to create their own virtual hockey uniform.

BaAM worked closely with the DSC and their in-house designer to develop the exhibits in the 3,000 sq. ft. space, overseeing all aspects of production and installation.

Observes BaAM President Annemarie Roe, “We’ve worked with the NHL on various projects since 1996. The Science of Hockey has allowed us to take the best of our hockey knowledge, blend it with our museum and science center design experience and collaborate with the Discovery Science Center team to create something really exciting.”
