BaAM in Canada's Capital for NHL All-Star Weekend

On Thursday, January 26, the NHL All-Stars took over Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, for a weekend full of hockey entertainment.  BaAM was involved in many of the All-Star events at locations around the city.

BaAM supported IMG with set production and stage management for the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft at Casino du Lac-Leamy.  We provided on-site production management, construction management, and technical direction for the NHL All-Star Skills Competition and the NHL All-Star Game.

Outdoors on the Rideau Canal, BaAM worked with the NHL and Canadian Tire to produce the Junior Skills competition finals.  The exciting event brought young hockey players from across Canada to test their skills on one of the most iconic rinks in the world. Winners were presented during the All-Star Skills event at Scotiabank Place.

At Rideau Hall, the Governor General’s residence, BaAM provided production management for the press event held in support of the Hockey Education Reaching Out Society [H.E.R.O.S.] program. Hosted by George Stroumboulopoulous, the formal press conference included comments by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Gary Bettman, Eugene Melnyk, Norm Flynn and Will O’Ree, and was followed by a hockey skills presentation on the outdoor rink, featuring NHL team mascots and a visit from legendary NHL goalie Johnny Bower.

Both the Fantasy Draft and Skills Competition drew large crowds and broadcast audiences. Following the events, the NHL reported that 10.2 million Canadians tuned-in to some part of CBC’s All-Star coverage. If you do the math, that works out to be about 30% of the population.

It was a busy weekend with some unforgettable moments.  It’ll be hard to catch everything in one post, but here’s our best shot:
